As part of our support to the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) in South Africa, FHI 360 UK prepared several diagnostic pieces to establish feasible pathways to improve youth employment. We completed four scoping studies and developed proposed implementation plans. Three workstreams examined employment opportunities, skill gaps, and job needs in the automotive, infrastructure, and social care and health sectors. We mapped data flows, assessed regulatory constraints, and recommended solutions to improve employment data collection and reporting. Additionally, we identified emerging opportunities and necessary competencies for new entrants. The fourth workstream developed an action plan for a pilot intervention linking TVET colleges with the National Pathway Management Network (NPMN) to facilitate workplace exposure and work-integrated learning.
